Writing notes

In this example we've uploaded a PDF document, but you can also upload Word documents, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and web pages.

Notes are attached to particular places in the document - simply highlight a word or phrase to start writing a note.

Uploaded documents and notes are private - but you can send a link to authorize other people to view and add comments.

Replies, Tags, Indexing

Other authorized viewers can add replies to notes.

You can also add 'tags' or keywords to notes - e.g. 'query', 'important', 'person', 'contact', 'company'. Tags makes it easier to organize and find notes in the index.

Saving an empty note simply adds the highlighted text as an index entry. On the page it is marked with a small "i" (e.g. see the phrase "annotating web pages" highlighted at the bottom of this screenshot).

Note display styles

Notes can be displayed in movable boxes over the text (as in the previous screenshots), in the right margin, as footnotes, or hidden from view.

The page itself can be moved sideways by dragging with the mouse on the background to make more space in the margin for notes.

Index of all notes on a document

Each document has a searchable and sortable index of all its annotations.

You can edit notes and add replies in this view too.

Index of all notes on all documents

The searchable notes index shows notes, tags and annotations across all your documents.

There are options to sort alphabetically, by date and by tag. Searching is instant as-you-type.

Clicking on a note shows its context as well a small preview of the PDF page or web page alongside. Click on the page or the link in the note to open the document at the right point.

Documents index

The documents index list all documents you've uploaded, and is searchable by title and tags. The most recent note is displayed alongside each entry.

Sharing documents

You can send links to friends or colleagues to let them view the document and add their own comments, or reply to notes you've made.

Other options are also available from the menu in the top right corner including editing the document properties, tags and description (shown here) a note finder and a clipboard tool.
